Shirasame refers to an evening shower or a shower.
In this painting, which is considered one of Hiroshige's masterpieces, people passing by on a slope are vividly depicted in the sudden wind and heavy rain that begins to fall.
The bamboo grove in the distant background is depicted with double silhouettes and vague outlines to express depth, and the angle of the falling rain expresses the intensity of the rain.
