It is such an iconic flower that “flower” is often used to refer specifically to the cherry blossom.

Not only for their visual splendor, but also for the grace with which they fall—a quality admired by samurai—they were frequently used in armor and other items.

Since cherry blossoms bloom all at once in full splendor, patterns featuring them are imbued with the meanings of “prosperity” and “abundance.”
