This pattern, popular in the Edo period, consists of a picture of a sickle, a picture of a wheel, and the character "Nu" superimposed on top of each other, in reference to the word "Kanawanu" (meaning "I don't care").
It is known as a pattern later used by Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro.
