The lower right is "Morning Glory Seller" by Ruri Bird.In the center, a chicken is baking an egg cracker.In the upper left, two metropolitan birds are making and selling "sakura mochi," a specialty of the Sumida River.In the lower left, a hoto-togisu is carrying "Hatsukatsuo" (first bonito).

Utagawa Kuniyoshi was an ukiyoe artist active in the late Edo period (1603-1868) who worked in a variety of genres, including landscapes, portraits of actors, and paintings of beautiful women.

Many of his works anthropomorphize and uniquely depict various animals and fish, giving the viewer a sense of Kuniyoshi's individuality.
