Collaboration of Ibasen and Carbonell, a long-established folding fan company in Spain

VALEDO folding fan is a collaboration work with 'Abanikos Carbonell', a long-established company of folding fans in Valencia, Spain. The material used is a wood called palo santo (rosewood). In the early Edo period (1603-1868), the fan culture seems to have spread to Europe via the sea during the Nanban trade between Spain and Japan. The hot climate of Spain seems to have suited the fan culture, and fans of this shape are still used today.
We asked Mr. Takafumi Mochizuki, a wood inlay craftsman in Firenze, to do the work on the parent bone of this collaborative product.
