Shikebiki fan
Hand painted in traditional Edo colors by craftsmen.
The Japanese paper is dyed with dyestuffs as it is, and the fan surface is hand-painted with fine lines by skilled craftsmen.
Shike" means silk threads drawn from silkworms, and "shike-biki" is a technique of dyeing delicate striped patterns on fabric with a comb-like shike brush. Shikebi is a technique in which delicate stripes are dyed on fabric with a comb-like brush. All the work is done by hand by specialized craftsmen, and it is possible to express a gentleness different from woven stripes, and a variety of stripes and lattices.
