What is "Shike"?

means silk threads drawn from silkworms.
Shike-biki is a technique of drawing delicate striped patterns on fabric with a comb-like brush. Japanese paper is dyed with dyestuffs as it is, and "shikebi" is done on the fan surface by skilled craftsmen. Each fan surface is hand-painted by a craftsman, and no two patterns are alike.folding fanEach one has a different expression.
